Sewanhaka High School announced Ms. Lauren Foley as its October Teacher of the Month. Science Department Chairperson Ms. Pauline Reece nominated Ms. Foley for the honor.

“Ms. Foley is one of the most hardworking, innovative science teachers at Sewanhaka. She sets very high expectations that her chemistry students work diligently to meet. She uses different methods and techniques to increase student engagement,” Reece said.

Ms. Foley frequently flips her lessons to create student-centered lessons in which students are held accountable for their learning. She uses humor to ease students’ anxiety regarding the difficult discipline of chemistry. Her AP Chemistry students created YouTube tutorials for Chemistry Regents students to use to help increase achievement on the test.

“Sewanhaka is very lucky to have her as a member of the staff. She truly deserves this honor,” Ms. Reece added.

Sewanhaka High School would also named Ms. Gwen Reese as its Staff Member of the Month. Ms. Reese is one of the key members of the Sewanhaka High School security team. Ms. Reese always makes students feel welcome and is often present at after-school events and extracurricular activities.
