The Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education recognized the valedictorians and salutatorians from across the district, as well as the board of education president, energy-efficient students at H. Frank Carey High School, Coca-Cola Scholar semifinalists and a National Board-Certified Teacher, at its meeting on Feb. 25.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Grossane opened the meeting by recognizing Board President David Del Santo, who has been selected to receive SCOPE’s School Board Service Award. Individuals receiving this award were nominated by their school district for having provided outstanding service to the district.
Representatives from PSEG also presented some of H. Frank Carey’s seventh-graders with a check of $1,500. The students, under the direction of science teachers, led an effort to support energy conservation. Through classroom instruction, the students were challenged to encourage families to request energy efficiency kits. H. Frank Carey won the grand prize for requesting the most kits to increase energy efficiency in their homes.
The honored valedictorians and salutatorians were then introduced by their respective principals or assistant principals, who provided information on their academic, extracurricular and volunteer activities.
