Sewanhaka students’ art exhibited at LIU Post

The creative works of Sewanhaka Central High School District students was proudly displayed at the 15th annual Advanced Visions: High School Artists of Excellence exhibit at the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library/S.A.L Gallery at LIU Post from Dec. 11-Jan. 9.

The exhibit featured artwork by 68 high school Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate students. This year, 34 public and private schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties submitted students’ artwork for display.

Art teachers Ms. Stella Grenier and Ms. Catherine Nolan (Elmont Memorial), Ms. Coleen Lucey (Floral Park Memorial), Ms. Gina Samet (H. Frank Carey), Ms. Danielle Livoti (New Hyde Park Memorial) and Ms. Allison Filippone (Sewanhaka) proudly chose the exhibiting student artists. Representing the district’s AP Studio Art program were Elmont Memorial’s Karl Nieves and Fernando Russo; Floral Park Memorial’s Meghan McCarthy and Marcella Sanchez; H. Frank Carey’s Jakob Hitchcock and Francesca Marchese; New Hyde Park Memorial’s Carol Sung and Sundy Zheng; and Sewanhaka’s Sean Daduya and Sophia Villavicencio.

In addition to having her artwork displayed, Floral Park Memorial High School’s Marcella Sanchez received an Outstanding Juror’s Award for her charcoal self-portrait.
