Students at Silverstein Hebrew Academy demonstrated their language skills—and their surgical skills—during the school’s Fall Open House.
Students dressed in surgical gear and worked at tables full of cut up letters and words and created their very own contractions using band-aid apostrophes to attach the words. The second graders have been working on contractions during their language classes, demonstrating the school’s new and innovative ways of learning.
Throughout the day, students were engaged in small group instruction where they could collaborate to practice coding and building a circuit.
The Silverstein Hebrew Academy open house was held to show prospective students and families the hands-on learning experiences SHA has to offer and to welcome them into the community. The open house was held during the school day, meaning that families saw the students learning in real time and could observe students and teacher interaction.
SHA conducts activities like these to ensure that students are able to learn visually and in a creative way. This activity allowed students to be creative, and the incorporation of a tangible activity in the learning process increases student engagement in the learning process.
