South High musician performs in state-wide piano showcase

South High School junior Ethan Jiang, was selected to perform in the fourteenth annual piano showcase hosted by the New York State School Music Educators Association, or NYSSMA, on Dec. 6. The Piano Showcase was part of the 2019 NYSSMA All-State Conference, held in Rochester.

Eighty-four students from across the state applied for this prestigious showcase, and Ethan was one of 12 musicians chosen to perform. He performed Etude Op. 10, No. 4 in c# minor by Frederic Chopin.

Ethan plays the bass clarinet as a member of the South High wind ensemble and symphony orchestra, and he plays piano in the school’s jazz band and musical productions. He is also active in the chamber music program and Music Community Outreach.

Ethan’s instrumental music teachers at South High are Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head, and Mark Boschen.

The NYSSMA All-State Conference featured various performances by the state’s finest student musicians as individuals and in ensembles.
