Students from Great Neck South High School held their annual St. Baldrick’s event in March and raised more than $5,000 to fight childhood cancer.

Students and faculty members—including Principal Christopher Gitz—volunteered to shave their heads or dye their hair to raise money and awareness for this important cause. The event was coordinated by Students Putting an End to Cancer, a South High student organization with faculty advisor Carly Bank.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is an international organization committed to supporting research to find cures for childhood cancers. Each year, thousands of volunteers worldwide organize fundraising events, such as their signature head-shaving events, to raise money for this cause. Since 2005, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has awarded more than $234 million in childhood cancer research grants.
