South High Science Olympiad team wins regional competition, advances to state

A Science Olympiad team from South High School won first place at the Nassau West Regional competition and will advance to the State competition in March.

The regional Science Olympiad competition, held on Feb. 2 at Kellenberg Memorial High School, featured 39 teams from western Nassau County. A total of five teams from the Great Neck Public Schools participated in the event – two teams from North High School and three teams from South High School – and four of the Great Neck teams placed in the top 10 overall.

Members of the first-place team from South High who will advance to the States are: Jooha Gha, Bradley He, Zhen (Tom) Huang, Katherine Hui, Veronica Khim, Michael Lu, Somya Pathak, Joelle Siong Sin, Ethan Wang, Jennifer Wang, Anthony Zhan, Allison Zhang, Kallista Zhuang.

This is the third consecutive year that a Science Olympiad team from South High has won the Nassau West Regional competition and advanced to the States.

Congratulations to all the Great Neck high school students who participated in the regional competition. Science Olympiad teams are coached by science teachers from their respective schools: Randy Appell at North High, and Dr. James Truglio and Nicole Spinelli at South High.
