Sara Bedoya Munoz, a senior at South High School, was honored at the Hispanic Heritage Celebration hosted by Senator Anna Kaplan (D-Great Neck) at the Port Washington Public Library on Oct. 10.

Sara was nominated for this honor by members of the South High Guidance Department in recognition of her leadership qualities, as evidenced through her academics, extra-curricular activities, and service to others. “Considerate, hard-working, and outgoing” are a few of the words used to describe Sara in the nomination letter.

Sara maintains a strong GPA while enrolled in Advanced Placement and Honors courses. She is a member of the South High varsity soccer team and president of the South High Academic Outreach Club, where she volunteers to tutor middle school students.

The Hispanic Heritage Celebration hosted by Senator Kaplan honored individuals who demonstrate leadership and promote a positive awareness of Latinos at school and in public life.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
