Great Neck South High School students Amal Deochand and Ian Myer earned first-place honors at the ninth annual Plainview-Old Bethpage Business Challenge, held on Oct. 18.
Amal and Ian were awarded a trophy and a plaque for their first-place finish in the entrepreneurial event, which challenged high school students to develop a creative business presentation based on an assigned topic using only their knowledge of business and two textbooks provided at the event. Judges commended Amal and Ian on their presentation skills, creativity, and overall professionalism.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Business Challenge brings together top business students from high schools all across Long Island. In teams of two or three, students prepare a presentation on a particular business topic for a panel of judges. The top six teams advance to the final round, in which participants give a two-minute elevator pitch to determine the event winners.
This annual event is organized and hosted by the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School Business Honor Society. The challenge is designed to prepare high school business students for future careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management by creating real-world scenarios for students to apply their communication and critical-thinking skills.
