South High Winter Concert II scheduled for Dec. 19

The South High School Winter Music Concert II is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ruel E. Tucker auditorium, 341 Lakeville Road. This concert is free of charge and the public is welcome to attend.

Winter Concert II will feature the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Chamber String Orchestra, Chamber Symphony Orchestra, and small vocal ensembles.

The Jazz Band will perform the holiday classics “Winter Wonderland” and “Frosty The Snowman,” plus popular favorites “Shallow” from the movie A Star Is Born, “My Girl,” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”

The Symphonic Band will perform “Thundercrest Concert March,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Riverside Overture,” and a medley of ABBA songs from the Broadway musical Mamma Mia!

The Chamber String Orchestra will play From Holberg’s Time, Suite for String Orchestra, Op. 40 by Edvard Grieg.

The Chamber Symphony Orchestra will perform a medley from Jesus Christ Superstar, selections from West Side Story, La Donna E Mobile Canzone from Rigoletto by Verdi, and “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson.

The concert will include vocal performances by several small ensembles, including: Soave sia il vento from Cosi fan Tutte by Mozart, performed by a classical ensemble; “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen, performed by a Broadway ensemble; “Imagine” performed by the women’s a cappella group; “Shut Up and Dance” performed by the men’s a cappella group; and “Since U Been Gone” performed by a mixed a cappella group.

This concert will be under the direction of Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head and instrumental teacher, and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal teacher, theory and piano.
