Seven students from South Middle School have been accepted to perform in the Middle School Honor Concert Band at the New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Honor Concert Bands Conference. One student has been named an Alternate.
South Middle School participants in the Middle School Honor Concert Band, with their instrument, are: Mitchell Agris, bassoon; Hugh Choi, flute; Samuel Fisk, oboe; Ami Kim, oboe; Charles Li, trumpet; Ivan Xu, alto saxophone; and Ryan Zhang, trumpet. Additionally, Whitney Choung has been named an Alternate for the baritone horn. Their teacher is Alan Schwartz, head of the music department.
Honor Concert Band performances will be held in Syracuse in early March 2020. Students were selected for the Honor Concert Band by a statewide panel of NYSBDA music educators who evaluated recordings of student performances.
