On Jan. 31, the Herricks High School chamber orchestra hosted, I Giovani Solisti, an ensemble comprised of the top string students from Conard High School and Hall High School in West Hartford, Conn.

Both ensembles have been working on movements of Tchaikovsky’s masterwork, “Souvenir de Florence,” and all the students combined into one large string ensemble for a side-by-side performance.

Herricks High School band director Scott Stickley served as the guest conductor for the event and quickly brought the students to new musical heights.

Both Herricks High School orchestra director Catherine Fish and I Giovani Solisti director Emmett Drake were thrilled with the way their students rose to the occasion. Everyone played better because they were playing with each other.
