Wondermedia winners from Mineola

Students from Mineola Union Free School District’s Middle School and Jackson Avenue School submitted original works to the Wondermedia Fall Film Festival.

Wondermedia Story Maker is a production program the schools have been utilizing to bring their stories to animated life. The district’s third- through seventh-grade students were invited to participate in the contest, which asked for submissions with a fall-related or habit of the mind-related theme. Mineola is proud to announce that they had several winners and honorable mentions from each of the schools. The district congratulates the following students:

  • Best Voice Performance – “Banana Bread and My Great Great Grandma Vania” by Paige Accardi and Grace Salamone from Jackson Avenue School
  • Best Voice Performance/ 1stRunner-Up – “The New Girl” by Caitlin Powers and Maeve Reilly from Jackson Avenue School
  • Honorable Mention Best Use of Animations to Tell a Story – “Halloween Safety Tips” by Gianna-Rose Leggio and Jasmine Ferreira from Jackson Avenue School
  • Honorable Mention Best Family Theme – “My Great Great Grandma Vania” by Eliana Leeand Abigail Dillon from Jackson Avenue School
  • First Runner-Up Best Animation Puppeteering – “The Clown Calamity” by Ayden Laffey, Sanáa Taylor, Makayla Apter-Quinn, Lauren Batjer and Maddie Troche from Mineola Middle School
  • First-Place Winner Best Sound Design – “Vania’s Halloween Adventure” by Fatimah Badoolah, Gia Susan John, Elyssa Chan, Jessica Perrino and Neeharika Vattikuti from Mineola Middle School
  • Honorable Mention Best Example of “Cliff Hanger” Story Strategy – “The Person in the Window” by Chris Bonetti, Matthew McCarthy, James Ragusa, Anthony Ferreira and Jesse Kostulias from Mineola Middle School
  • Honorable Mention Excellent Story Development – “Blackout” by James Marino, Frankie Hradek, Andrew Leiter, Dante Rafuna and Julia Manevitz from Mineola Middle School
  • Honorable Mention Creative Storytelling – “Sleepy Hollow Road” by Erin Feehan, Maria Kalogiros, Anna Hornung, Allison Gayson and Arianna McIntosh from Mineola Middle School
  • Honorable Mention Best Use Of Facial Expressions to Tell a Story – “Teacher of Terror” by Jayceon Williams, Emma Martin, Joe Malone and Robert Ely from Mineola Middle School
