Sewanhaka Central High School District Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel & Special Education Services Regina Agrusa has been selected to receive SCOPE’s Administrator Service Award for her outstanding contributions to the district’s students.
Agrusa came to the district in 1997 hired as a school counselor for Elmont Memorial High School. In 1999, she was named pupil personnel services chairperson at the school, supervising student support services which included the school counselors, psychologists, social workers, speech, attendance and nursing staff. During that time, she introduced character education curriculums and programs to the school’s middle school students and worked with her administrators to increase student enrollment in the AP program. Agrusa also coached varsity lacrosse, earning coach of the year honors during the 2003 conference championship season.
Agrusa was promoted to district director of pupil personnel services in 2004 and tasked with supervising all five schools’ student support services staff. She served as the district Safety Committee chairperson, facilitated the Safe and Drug-Free School Grant, implemented a School Mental Health Awareness program, created district parent workshops and organized the district College and Career Fair. She is the recipient of the Sewanhaka Central High School District PTA Lifetime Membership Award, the 2006 Phi Delta Kappa Friends of Education Award sponsored by Molloy College and the 2011 Academy for Character Education Leadership Award from Sage College in Albany.
In 2013, she was named assistant superintendent for pupil personnel and special education services, responsible for student support services, special education instruction and programs, student placement, articulation, the 611 federal grant, IDEA and 504 compliance, and professional development programs districtwide. In addition to her other honors and awards, she received the 2014 Nassau Counselors’ Association Administrator of the Year Award.
Superintendent of Schools Ralph Ferrie recommended Agrusa for the award, describing her “as by far one of the most gifted and talented administrators I have had the pleasure of knowing during my professional career.”
Agrusa will be honored at SCOPE’s 17th annual School District Awards Dinner on March 19, 2018.
