Five Sewanhaka High School students in Ms. Lovett’s Physics class competed in the Physics Olympics held at Farmingdale State College on March 22. Josh Gallardo, Patrick Ihejirika, Sukhriti Kaur, Daniella Omotoso and Irvin Ruiz worked together in a series of five physics challenges. They used their prior knowledge of physics, as well as their ability to analyze a situation, assess a problem and implement a solution.

They were able to solve Fermi approximations, walk at a constant acceleration, hit a target using lasers and mirrors, determine when to release two objects with different accelerations so that they meet, and solve various Regents physics questions. Their teamwork and effort were evident throughout the competition as they worked alongside 17 other school districts.
