Jack Hirsch, Commander of the Albertson VFW Post 5253, spoke with students at the Shelter Rock Library to remind them of the importance of remembering our veterans.

The students made valentines which state Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso will give to veterans at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook and at the Northport VA Medical Center as part of his Valentines 4 Veterans program.

“Our veterans have done so much for our county; we honor them with these valentines made by local students, so they know they are not forgotten,” D’Urso said.

For more than a decade public and parochial schools, as well as businesses, libraries, and private citizens in the community have donated personal care items, outerwear and electronics for the 16th Assembly District’s Valentines for Vets Program.

Each year two truckloads of handmade valentines and donated items are delivered to the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook and the Northport VA Medical Center.
