Silverstein Hebrew Academy (SHA) students recently took part in a special service learning opportunity with North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital to celebrate Sukkot, a major Jewish holiday commemorating the shelter of the Israelites during their 40 years in the wilderness.
In order to arrange this opportunity, SHA partnered with the Chabad of The Hospitals so that hospital patients could enjoy lulav sets for the holiday. Students learned the religious and cultural significance of the lulav ring, fastening together lulav, etrog, hadassim and aravot (palm frond, citrus fruit, myrtle branches and willow branches) to beautify the hospital and for patients to enjoy. They also put together a daled minim for the feast.
