Julian Hunt and the Long Island Lions hockey team won the gold medal at the Special Olympics New York’s 2018 Winter Games.
The team placed first in the Long Island Region for floor hockey.
Hunt, 38, currently lives in Westbury, but grew up in South Floral Park where his mother still resides.
Hunt said the win was a team effort.
“We had a good time … I felt that everyone played great,” Hunt said.
At the Rochester games Hunt and his team were joined by more than 1,000 athletes across the state.
The tournament featured competitions in a variety of winter sports including skiing, snowboarding and figure skating.
This was the second year in a row the Long Island Lions hockey team took the gold.
Hunt is already looking forward for the team’s third gold next year.
Which is no surprise, considering his affinity medals, according to his coach Joe Branzetti.
“He’s in love with the medals,” Branzetti said in a previous interview. “He compares himself to Michael Phelps.”
Despite the recent success at the Winter Games, Hunt isn’t slowing down.
In an interview on Friday, Hunt said he was preparing for a Saturday track meet and looking forward to a basketball tournament on June 2.
Hunt has been playing with the Long Island Lions since 2010. In addition to hockey, he competes in bowling, basketball and track and field.
