Get your skin fall ready

The Island Now

For every new season, there should be a new skincare routine.

When saying “so long” to summer and welcoming fall, exfoliation is key. The best way of exfoliating is by having a microdermabrasion facial.

The use of genuine laser-cut diamond-tip applicators is the most effective way to achieve the most noticeable results. The diamond-tip applicator exfoliates the skin surface while a gentle suction stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and improves blood circulation.

It is also effective in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, sunspots, and uneven skin texture. Microdermabrasion removes the dead skin cells and promotes the growth of healthy, new cells for a smoother, more radiant and flawless complexion.

The next step: hydration! The summer sun also dries out the skin, and the cold fronts that follow in the fall don’t help matters much. It’s important to point out the difference in moisturizing and hydrating.

Moisturizing is superficial and the role of moisturizers is to trap the natural oils on the skin to prevent further loss, which leads to dryness. Hydration refers to the amount of water in your skin.

If your skin is dehydrated, moisturizers won’t help much because they will only lock in moisture that already exists (or does not exist) in the skin.

DermaOxy treatments, known as oxygen facials, are incredible at leaving you with hydrated and younger-looking skin. Concentrated oxygen combined with five different herbal serums is sprayed on the face.

This cocktail penetrates deep, leaving the skin with a luminous glow. The DermaOxy treatment: neutralizes free radicals; strengthens the immune system against acne-causing bacteria; fights skin redness, wrinkles, and pigmentation; bolsters existing collagen and elastin, which keep your skin young.

During those hot summer months, it’s also common to see some extra pigmentation in your skin, especially if you weren’t completely committed to using sunscreen daily.

IPL skin rejuvenation, commonly called photofacials, is one of the most effective treatments for this hyperpigmentation. It illuminates the body with small pulses of light (intense pulsed light – IPL).

It is a technologically advanced therapy proven to be the most effective and least painful method available. These small pulses of light are applied to the skin, where it is then transformed into heat.

This heat stimulated the creation of new elastin and collagen coils, restoring the elastic networks under the skin.

The effect is increased elasticity and luminosity, as well as reduced fine lines, sun damage, and signs of aging, while balancing your skin tone. This treatment is ideal for the face, neck, chest, and hands.

It’s imperative that you apply sunscreen every morning before applying makeup. This may sound strange, especially on those dreary autumn days, but the rays of the sun can damage your skin every day of the year, rain or shine.

Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 with a broad spectrum. My personal favorite is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense. It has a universal tint that enhances natural skin tone and boosts radiance and goes on smoothly and completely.

With these additions to your skincare routine, your skin will be glowing and radiant this holiday season! Happy fall!
