LIU Post soccer season nearing end

The Island Now

The LIU Post men’s and women’s soccer teams are wrapping up their regular seasons. The men’s team has a season overall record of 9-4-0, and the women’s overall record is 9-2-3.

The season goals for the men’s team, according to Coach Michael Mordocco, have been to place “in the top four in the league and host the conference game.” Mordocco had his team take it “game by game” during the fall 2018 season.

“It’s been a pleasure working with these guys,” Mordocco said, expressing the high level of work his team has done this season, as well as the high level of maturity of his players. Lukas Ostermann, a graduate student from Germany, has scored 13 goals this season, Mordocco said, about one of his key players.

But, he commended all of his players, noting that team work is extremely important and that “all the returners have been a great asset on our team,” trying “to improve every day.”

Mordocco is hopeful that his team will go to NEC and DII championships. “I think we have the talent, motivation and the team to strive towards it. We are just focusing on game by game, trying to win our regular season. We will see what happens from there. Anything that happens after is a bonus.”

The men’s team plays Jefferson University on Wednesday, Oct. 24 and NYIT Saturday, Oct. 27 to finish its regular season. The women’s team plays Jefferson University on Monday, Oct. 22 and Stonehill College on Saturday, Oct. 27 to finish its season.
