The LIU Post women’s bowling team will travel to Loretto, Penn., on Jan. 26 to compete in the Red Flash Invitational at Saint Francis University.

After a second-place finish at the Westchester Community College Invitational at Farmingdale Lanes in Farmingdale on Jan. 21, the team will look to have another strong showing.

In their first invitational of the season on Oct. 28, the Pioneers did not have a day to remember at the Griffin Invitational in Philadelphia, finishing 1-4 against Chestnut Hill College (Loss, 709-878; Win, 1764-1559), Kutztown University (Loss, 752-831; Loss 1600-1698), and Saint Peter’s University (Loss, 776-824).

A sixth-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational in New Castle, Dele., and a second place finish at the Westchester Community College Invitational gave the Pioneers momentum to remain hot at the Red Flash Invitational.

In the Westchester Community College Invitational, LIU Post junior biology major Sarah Busse led the Pioneers with a six-game total of 1,080, including a high game of 235 for a 180 average on the day.

LIU Post freshmen business administration major Patricia Kelly and freshman nursing major Emily Cavanaugh added six-game totals of 1,067 and 1,053 of their own.

Freshman clinical lab science major Pamela Penso added a high game of 183, while sophomore special education major Alexis Kosakavich had a high game of 162.

Kelly and Cavanaugh captured second place in the doubles competition, compiling a three-game total of 1,088, while Busse and Kosakavich finished fifth with a total of 1,006. Busse and Kelly’s success earned the two bowlers a spot on the all-tournament team for the day.

“We have overcome many obstacles, like losing some teammates (due to graduating), but for the circumstances we were dealt, we have done well,” Kelly said of the Pioneers’ season. “

The Pioneers will face off against a total of 20 teams in the Red Flash Invitational at Saint Francis University.

Freshman business administration major Patricia Kelly, as confident as ever, “expects a top-10 finish.”

The bowling team first came to LIU Post during the fall 2016 semester with six members. The team now consists of five students and is coached by Edward Raven, a nationally-certified United States Bowling Congress coach and a former 10-year member (1994-2004) of the Professional Bowlers Association.
