Merillon Field was filled to capacity on Saturday, June 11 to see the Merillon Giants take on the team from Glen Oaks.
The Merillon Giants scored three runs in the first on a two-run single by Jimmy Weedon and a groundout by Kenny Hirschfeld.
Weedon racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Merillon Giants.
Four Merillon Giants pitchers combined for a one-hitter while striking out 14 batters. Way to go Vinay Patel, Kenny, Jimmy and Ryan Wasserman who struck out the sides in the final two innings to nail down the win.
The Merillon Giants pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the fourth. In the third, the Merillon Giants scored on an RBI single by Jimmy, plating Wasserman.
The Merillon Giants built upon their lead with two runs in the fourth. A bases-loaded walk scored Anthony Ponzo Jr. to start the scoring in the inning. Stephen Lopez and Scotty McClellan made a few great plays in the field.
The team from Glen Oaks showed a lot of heart and played a great game. We would like to thank all the support of the fans who came out to watch the Giants play this year. Hats off the kids who had a great season going 11-1 and really coming together as a team. The coaches could not have been more proud.
