Senior high school basketball player Samantha Busch represented Roslyn High School as they hosted the Nassau County Girls Basketball All Star Game on Friday, March 24.

The four year varsity player was one of 18 players selected from Nassau County teams who participated in the senior All Star Game.

This event recognized All-County seniors and allowed them to play in one more game as they finished up their high school career.

Busch, who is heading to Duke University, said this was her best season with Roslyn and was proud to be on the court one last time.

“I worked really hard to get here,” Busch said. “It’s not just about scoring. It’s about assisting, passing, working with my team and doing the best I possibly could.”

The two-year captain is coming off a season where she led the team in points and assists.

Busch averaged around 14 points per game and was the third leading scorer in the Nassau A-II Conference.

In the senior game, Busch helped the home team win 85-64 and finished with 12 points.

Busch said she will miss playing at Roslyn next year and will never forget her experience with the team.

“They’re my family and we all worked so hard together,” Busch said. “I couldn’t have done well without my teammates and coaches.”

Roslyn head coach Noreen Naughton, who participated in the coaches game, said she described Busch as an all-around, great player.

“Sam is the athlete that every coach wants,” Naughton said. “She puts team goals ahead of all individual goals. Because of her leadership qualities, she’s been able to keep the team together.”

Naughton said it was nice to send off Busch in the senior game in front of her hometown and will miss her contributions to the Roslyn varsity team.

“It wasn’t only her basketball skills that made Sam an asset to this program,” Naughton said. “It’s the kind of person that she is. Her character helped the team through the highs and lows of the season.”
