Herricks High School Science Research students competed in the New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF) on April 1, held at the New York Hall of Science. Four students were recognized with awards, including two first place distinctions.
Junior Carrie Hsu received the first-place award in Embedded Systems category for her project, “Development of a Flexible Durometer Sensor for Improving Hardness Tactile Modality Using Piezoelectric Polymers.” Carrie will now compete on the international level at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Phoenix Arizona from May 11-17.
Senior Eish Maheshwari received the first-place award in Translational Medicine for his project, “Design of a Red Blood Cell-Based Drug-Delivery Platform for Improving Curcumin Pharmacokinetics and Bioavailability via Reengineered Silica Nanoparticles.” Eish will serve as an alternative in his category for Intel ISEF.
Senior Ankit Jain received the third-place award in the Comparative Biology category with his project, “Classifying Metabolic States from Vagal Activity in BALB/C Mice.”
Senior Sahith Vadada received the third-place award in Biomedical Engineering for his project, “Polylactic Acid/Graphene Composite for Neurogenic Differentiation of Dental Pulp Stem Cells.”
