The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District recently welcomed students from Great Neck South High School for a tour of the district’s facility at 236 E. Shore Road, providing students insight into an environmentally conscious wastewater treatment facility.
The students from two of Holly Cipriano’s AP environmental science classes toured the treatment center and viewed the state-of-the-art infrastructure as a model of sustainability for the future.
Prior to the tour, students listened to a presentation and asked questions about the ongoing eco-friendly projects, the ultraviolet disinfection system, anaerobic digesters, microturbine systems, water conservation initiatives and the history of wastewater treatment.
The district provides tours throughout the school year to enhance local students’ curriculum on sustainability and wastewater treatment, preparing them for future examinations like the AP environmental science exam in May.
