Three schools from the Great Neck Public Schools have been recognized by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as official “No Place for Hate” schools. North High School, North Middle School, and South Middle School are recipients of this national designation for the 2018–2019 school year.
The No Place for Hate program provides a model for combating bullying, racism, and prejudice in schools. To become a No Place for Hate school, schools need to form a committee to oversee and promote harmony and respect for differences, officially present the “Resolution for Respect,” and hold three or more activities during the year that celebrate diversity and promote respect.
“We are so proud of the anti-bias and bullying prevention work that you’ve done this school year,” Amanda Holder, associate education director for the ADL, wrote in an email to building principals. “Only 1,800 schools across the country have earned the No Place for Hate designation, and your school is one of them.”
Representatives from North High, North Middle, and South Middle attended a Recognition Ceremony hosted by the ADL in New York City on May 23, where the schools received their official No Place for Hate banner. During the event, North Middle students presented their No Place for Hate activities during a Student Showcase, and South Middle students shared a musical performance during the Recognition Ceremony.
Additionally, North Middle and South Middle have been recognized as Gold Star No Place for Hate schools for the third consecutive year, an honor reserved for schools that have completed four or more school-wide activities during the school year.
