On May 31, a trio of musicians from South Middle School performed at Lincoln Center as part of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Ensemble Program.
Seventh graders Drew Kim and Richard Zhuang on violins and Sebastian Lennox on viola performed Antonin Dvorak’s “Terzetto” for Two Violins and Viola at the annual concert in the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio at Lincoln Center.
This is the ninth time in ten years that a chamber ensemble from South Middle has been invited to perform at Lincoln Center through the Young Ensemble Program.
This year, South Middle students formed a total of seven small ensembles to prepare chamber music pieces for this competition.
“This is the largest number of students we have had in the ten years of participating in this program,” said Alan Schwartz, the department chair for music at South Middle School. “There was heavy competition throughout the tri-state area, and we are very proud of all our students.”
The Young Ensembles Program, sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, is open to students in grades six to eight. Winning ensembles receive professional coaching by Chamber Music Society artists, and perform in the culminating concert at Lincoln Center.
