Town officials announce restrictions on Dennis Street

The Island Now

North Hempstead officials announced last Tuesday there will now be traffic restrictions on Dennis Street in Manhasset to ease congestion around the middle and high school.

The new rule prohibits stopping, parking and U-turns on the residential street during school days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to a release from Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan.

Drivers heading towards the schools are being advised to use Memorial Place instead, to prevent traffic backing up in front of homes on Dennis Street, the release said.

North Hempstead’s Parking Enforcement will be monitoring the area for violations of the new rule.

Drivers that do not follow the restrictions will be given warnings and tickets, the release said.

People using the tennis courts are allowed to park on the north side of Dennis Street for up to one hour at designated spots with signage.

For more information, contact the town’s call center by dialing 311.
