Two arrested after purse theft at New Hyde Park ShopRite: police

A man and woman were arrested for grand larceny following a theft that occurred outside the ShopRite on New Hyde Park Road on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., Nassau County police reported.

Jillian Anselmo, 34, of Williston Park, and Bradley Pearl, 32, of Plainview, were found in a black Lexus near the scene of the crime, police said.

While loading her car, a 76-year-old woman was approached by an unknown male who took her purse from a shopping cart, according detectives.

When police arrived, they found Pearl, who fit the woman’s description, in the front passenger seat of the car, police said. Anselmo was driving the car, police said.

An investigation found that Pearl allegedly took the woman’s pocketbook, police said.

Both Anselmo and Pearl were arrested without incident and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

Anselmo and Pearl were arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.

Pearl was adjourned by Judge William Hohauser on Friday with $5,000 cash and $2,500 bond. The case was adjourned with same bail conditions on Tuesday by Judge Anthony Paradiso.

Asnelmo was adjourned by Judge William Hohauser on Friday with $1,500 bond and $1,000 cash. She is set to appear again in court on Tuesday.
