Two members of Long Island’s performing arts community — The American Chamber Ensemble and Eglevsky Ballet — are partnering with Hofstra University’s Department of Music to present a concert titled “The Music That Makes Me Dance,” a musical marriage of music and movement, on Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse at South Campus.
The concert features music by Cole Porter, Felix Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Piazzola, Gershwin, Jules Styne, Jon Russ, and Hofstra alumnus Andres Maldonado ’15, as well as choreography by Mikhail Fokine, Samuel Kunzman, Eric Lewis Thielman, and Maurice Brandon Curry, who serves as Executive Artistic Director at Eglevsky Ballet.
The concert features special guest artist Ashley Tuttle of American Ballet Theatre. Tuttle was invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov to join American Ballet Theatre at the age of 16, and her career spanned 17 years with A.B.T., reaching the rank of Principal dancer.
Founded by former New York City Ballet principal dancer Andre Eglevsky, one of the greatest dancers of his generation, Eglevsky Ballet has been bringing balletic artistry of the highest caliber to Long Island for more than 50 years. Eglevsky Ballet has long been recognized as a prominent, professional company.
The American Chamber Ensemble celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015.
