Car fire put out in front of North Shore Hospital

The Island Now

Members of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department extinguished a car fire near the main entrance of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset on Wednesday night.

Department Chief Mark Kiess and Deputy Chief William Mazurkiewicz responded to the call at 300 Community Drive around 8 p.m., according to fire officials.

The chiefs had just finished responding to a call in the area, so they arrived on the scene quickly, a department spokesman said.

When they arrived, the car was completely engulfed in flames, but did spread to any part of the hospital’s structure, he said.

The responders extinguished the fire, and were able to clear their units from the scene in about 20 minutes, the release said.

No one was injured during the fire, and the cause has not been determined.

There was no evidence that the fire resulted from a crash, the spokesman said.
