Blood pressure screenings: Friday, July 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Registered Nurse will conduct screenings. No appointments necessary.

Free community hearing screenings: Friday, July 12, 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Hy Weinberg Center at Adelphi University is pleased to offer hearing screenings to the public. Students and audiology faculty will be available to screen anyone 3 years of age and older.

Movie: “The Best of Enemies,” PG-13, 2h 13min. Friday, July 12 at 1:30 p.m. Starring Sam Rockwell, Taraji P. Henson, Nicholas Logan, Wes Bentley, Anne Heche. Based on a true story about the unlikely relationship between Ann Atwater, an outspoken civil rights activist, & C.P. Ellis, a local Ku Klux Klan leader.

Cards, coloring and coffee: Monday, July 15 at 1 p.m. Join a social afternoon of cards (bring your friends if you need four players), or a stimulating game of chess (provided by the library, bring a partner).

Career counseling: Tuesday, July 16. Appointment times are: 10:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2 p.m. Email to schedule an appointment. Bring current resume to appointment.

Out-of-this-world cake decorating with Chef’s of d’Future: Tuesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. Join Chef Julie Reilly and use your unique vision to decorate a full-sized cake with a universally tasty theme to take home and enjoy. Fee: $5.

Star signs with Sarah: Tuesday, July 16 at 7 p.m. Learn about your astrological star sign and then create a wood plaque with your sign on it. Non-refundable Fee – $5. Make check payable to “Hillside Public Library.”

Book discussion – Page Turners: Wednesday July 17 at 1 and 7 p.m. The book being discussed is “The Storyteller” by Jodi Picoult. Becoming friends with Josef Weber, an old man who is particularly loved in her community, Sage Singer is shocked when one day he asks her to kill him and reveals why he deserves to die, causing her to question her beliefs.

Library Board of Trustees’ meeting: Thursday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Movie: “Fighting with My Family,” PG-13, 1h 48min. Friday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Lena Headey, Vince Vaughn. A heartwarming comedy based on the incredible true story of WWE Superstar Paige.

Children and young adults and events

Out of this world: Friday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. Ages: 9 months to 4 years old (with parent or caregiver). Travel out of this world and back again. Stories and poems and a song or two.

YA Art Club: Grades 5 and Up, Friday, July 12 at 5:30 p.m. Help decorate the library’s YA Room by creating a unique art project with Ms. Ambadjes. All projects will be displayed and returned the following class.

Alien snack attack: Monday, July 15 at 4 p.m. Grades: (In September) 2 to 4. Create some out of this world snacks that aliens and humans will love.

Cuddle up with a stuffed animal: Tuesday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m. Ages: 3 to 6 years old (with parent/caregiver). Participants will hand stuff a 16” toy animal and dress it. Participants will also receive a bag and birth certificate for their new friend. Materials Fee: $5 (fee must be paid before July 15th)

Sweet Summer Salsa: Wednesday, July 17 at 3 p.m. Grades: (In September) 1 to 4. Join Chef Julie and create a delicious summer salsa to share with your family. Materials Fee: $2

Sweet summer salsa (Young Adult): Wednesday, July 17 at 4:30 p.m. Grades 5 and up. Join Chef Julie in creating a sweet summer salsa, using fun ingredients like watermelon and more. $2 Materials Fee.

A universe of stories with Royal Princess Ariel: Thursday, July 18 at 4 p.m. Ages: 4 to 8 years old. A special princess story time. Children will listen to a story read by the Royal Princess Ariel and then have a photo opportunity with the Princess.

Dogvinci, the Painting Dog: Thursday, July 18 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Grades 5 and up. Join Dagger aka “Dogvinci” as he demonstrates how to abstract paint. Create your own abstract painting inspired by Dagger. $2 Materials Fee.

Play hooray – Lift off into a good book with Mollie Mouse: Friday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m. Ages: infants to 5 years old (with parent/caregiver). Songs, games, and stories with Mollie the Mouse.

YA Yoga: Friday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m. Grades 5 and up. Join one of the library’s new Yoga teachers Jacqui in a night of relaxing poses. Melt your stress away.
