During last week’s public hearing, the Floral Park Board of Trustees officially welcomed the warmer months with the approval of this year’s Memorial Day Parade, which will take place Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. and will be immediately followed by a memorial service in Memorial Park.

Also approved at the April 2 session was the Floral Park Bellerose School’s 44th annual Olympic Day and parade, which will be held on Wed., June 5. In addition, the school’s Junior Olympic Day will be held on Wed., May 22. These events will require police assistance, 22 road barricades, and street closures.

Fast forward to September:  The board has approved Floral Park Memorial High School’s annual Homecoming Parade, which will take place on Sat., Sept. 14, at 11 a.m.

Second on the night’s agenda, the board gave the go-ahead to install school speed limit signs in both directions on Vandewater Avenue between Plainfield and Locust, Locust Street between Vandewater and Miller, and Miller Avenue between Plainfield and Locust St. Stop signs will also be installed on Willow Street at the intersection of Willow Street and Birch Street, in both directions.

The board has also authorized the extension of the village’s street light contract with Go West. There will be no change in rates and terms.

The meeting confirmed that 99.6 percent of the village’s taxes were collected in 2018, totaling $24,865,480.28. The board has agreed that the Tax Sale date will be held May 8 at 10 a.m. in Village Hall Courtroom to recover the 2018 unpaid taxes.
