An unemployed Long Island music teacher appeared in court last Thursday on charges of attempting to have sex with a teenage boy, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District said.

Charles Bull, of Sea Cliff, was arrested by the FBI last Wednesday and appeared in a Central Islip court Thursday. The 53-year-old admitted to bringing three condoms and an Xbox gift card to a hotel room where he expected to meet with a 13-year-old boy, according to the complaint.

“I know it was wrong,” he said, according to the complaint. “I can’t hide that and I know there’s consequences.”

United States Magistrate Judge Arlene Lindsay ordered Bull to be detained.

Bull, a former teaching assistant at Locust Valley School District, arranged the meeting after talking to someone he thought was the father of the teen boy in a chatroom called “LongIslandDLMenOnly,” according to court documents.

The father wrote Bull saying he and his son were on vacation and looking for “things to do,” the documents said. That’s when Bull expressed interest in having sex with the boy, according to the complaint. Unbeknown to Bull, he was actually talking to undercover FBI agent Cindy Wolf.

Wolf said Bull organized a meeting with the “father” at a coffee shop in Farmingdale July 23 to see pictures of the teen boy. The next day, Bull showed up at a hotel in Melville where the son was supposed to be staying, according to the complaint. Before he could enter any hotel room Bull was arrested.

According to court documents, Bull told officers, “I’m not going to lie, I was there to have sex with the 13-year-old boy. I know it was wrong. I can’t hide that.”

Bull’s attorney Randi Chavis declined to comment.

The FBI said Bull worked as a music teaching assistant at the Locust Valley school district last year.  He also had worked at the School of Rock music school in the past.
