Herricks High School sports fall recap

Herricks High School’s varsity athletes had an outstanding fall season. The girls volleyball team was named Co-Conference Champion and went on to compete in the playoffs at Massapequa High School on Nov. 5.

Congratulations to Grace Bravo, Madison Carson, Taylor David, Olivia Dewalters, Mikaela Eisinger, Jeanine Fellus, Francesca Hackenjos, Emma Joseph, Kristina Karanicolas, Christina Kokis, Kara Lacey, Lauren Levine, Jenna Novella, Rachel Saji and Gabrielle Zambell. Head Coach Tara Krinsky was named the Nassau Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of The Year. The boys volleyball excelled as well and made it to the playoffs.

Girls swim team members Katie Hong, Kaitlin Hsieh, Sophia Karras, Nicole Nowak and Kailey Simons represented Herricks in the Nassau County Swimming and Diving Championships, and Sophia was named Nassau County Champion in the 500 Free. The students then advanced to the New York State Swimming and Diving Championships at Ithaca College from Nov. 21-23. These state qualifiers swam in numerous events.

The girls soccer team was awarded the Referees Sportsmanship Award for the 2019 season. This prestigious distinction is given to one school in Nassau County, as voted on by the Nassau County Girls Soccer Game Officials.

Cross country students Emily Joseph, Kailen McCauley, Riley Kiernan, Rhea Rasquinha, Harsha Shivdasani and Kenil Soni qualified to compete in the New York State Qualifier meet at Bethpage State Park on Nov. 9. Rhea also earned All-County honors, finishing in 9th place.

Congratulations also go to the boys soccer and girls tennis teams, who participated in the playoffs. Additionally, the boys badminton, boys and girls cross country, cheerleading, boys golf, boys and girls soccer, girls swimming, girls tennis and boys and girls volleyball teams were named Scholar Athlete Teams for maintaining exceptional grade point averages of 90 or higher.
