Herricks senior named recipient of Scholar Artist Award

Herricks High School senior Joanna Lau has been named one of the 20 recipients of the Long Island Scholar Artist Award, presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance. She was honored in the music category, along with three other students, and was selected to represent the entire category as a performer at the Sept. 12 celebratory event.

A talented flutist and violinist with many achievements to her name, she is a two-time New York State School Music Association All-State Music Festival participant and has also represented at the Music for All National Festival as a member of the Honor Orchestra of America. She attended the Manhattan School of Music pre-college and earned first place in their Concerto Competition. She additionally won the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. Also co-president of the Tri-M Honor Society, Joanna is among 13 nationally selected recipients of the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship.

Scholar Artists were initially congratulated at the September gathering, and will again be commended at the end of the school year gala at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the Campus of LIU-Post.
