New York Institute of Technology

Celina Zapiti of Mineola and Swapnil Barot of New Hyde Park were finalists in a biomedical engineering competition to create assistive technology to aid people with disabilities.

Zapiti’s team, “Zipper,” tackled a project to help people with dexterity issues open and close zippers. Team “Zipper” came second in the competition, with team members sharing a $500 prize. Zapiti is pursuing an MS in occupational therapy.

Barot’s team, “Ear Plugs,” tackled a project to build an electromechanical system to allow people with developmental disabilities to work in manufacturing. This team came third in the competition and shared a prize of $250. Barot is pursuing a BS in electrical and computer engineering.

The following students earned Dean’s List honors for the fall 2018 semester: Lauren Bascelli, Jillian Clark, Andrea Grebinger and Olivia Boniello of Williston Park; Benjamin Carbone, Margaret Giacinto, Christopher Lockwood and Christen Patalano of Mineola; Katherine Dorman and Katie Keyes of Albertson; Siria Castillo and Ana Zelaya of Port Washington; Jessica Sorkin and Samuel Sundick of Great Neck; and Benjamin Cradin, Casey Hayes, Irene Isaac, Andrew Kraus, Jennifer Li, Caitlyn Pereira, Jason Priest and Jalissa Sanchez of New Hyde Park.

Alexa Nicole Raffo of Williston Park was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2018 semester.

Laura Dumpson of Mineola completed a bachelor of arts degree in psychology in fall 2018.

Adam Taxier of Port Washington completed a bachelor of arts degree in public relations in fall 2018.

Michael Cozzi of Manhasset has been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the fall 2018 Dean’s List with honors.
