Carriage Services, a Houston, Texas-based funeral home chain, has acquired the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes.

Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes have been serving families on Long Island for 93 years, beginning in 1924 when Thomas F. Dalton opened the first location in Floral Park.

Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes currently serves over 900 families annually across five locations in Nassau County. The other funeral homes are located in New Hyde Park, Williston Park, Levittown and Hicksville.

The funeral homes are now in the hands of third generation Daltons, Tim Dalton and Beth-Dalton-Costello.

The needs and wishes of the families Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes serves has always been the Dalton’s priority, Dalton-Costello said in a Carriage Services release.

“When it was time to ensure that the Dalton Funeral Homes and our philosophy of service would continue to be available to our communities, we sought out the Carriage family as the best possible partner we could choose,” Dalton-Costello said.

Dalton-Costello will continue to lead Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes under a five year employment agreement, according to a release.

Carriage Services is led by CEO Mel Payne, one of the co-founders of the business in 1991.

In 2012, Carriage Services launched a “Good to Great” journey, based on concepts from the Jim Collins’ book of the same name.

Taking over Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes will enhance Carriage Service’s portfolio of business in the Long Island Market, Payne said in a release.

The partnership will also accelerate the second five-year timeframe of Carriage Service’s “Good To Great Journey,” according to Payne.
