Nassau County Police Department’s homicide squad is investigating a three-car road accident that occurred Wednesday and left at least two people including a two-year-old boy with “extensive traumatic injuries.”

A release from the department said a 29-year-old female driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra was traveling east on Old Country Road in Mineola collided head-on with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude that was traveling west being driven by a 28-year-old female.

This caused a third car to be struck as a result, a Chevrolet Equinox being driven by a 41-year-old male with three female occupants ages 35, six and three.

The driver of the Sentra and her two-year-old son sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital. Both of the other drivers also suffered minor injuries.

No deaths were reported but officials said homicide squad still investigates incidents where serious injuries occur.

As for the cause of the crash, officials said they could not give out that information at this time, but that it is being investigated.
