Floral Park Memorial High School participated in P.S. I Love You Day on Feb. 12. The day was created by Brooke DiPalma, a former West Islip resident, to spread awareness of suicide and depression.

On the second Friday of every February, communities are encouraged to wear purple to recognize this day, and to foster kindness and a welcoming environment. Floral Park Memorial partakes each year to promote mental health awareness, spread love and decrease bullying in the school community.

Students, staff and faculty recognized the day by wearing purple and P.S. I Love You Day face masks. In addition to wearing purple, activities were created for seventh and eighth grade students to further acknowledge the importance of mental health. In class, students learned the history of P.S.

I Love You Day and decorated hearts with positive messages. They also researched inspirational quotes, as well as explained what they liked about them and how a specific quote may apply to an individual’s life
