The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program has honored Emilia Charno, a student at Paul D. Schreiber High School.

The college board annually recognizes 5,000 students who identify as Hispanic and have scored highly on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a news release said.

“We are proud of Emilia and the hard work she demonstrates in every facet of her studies at Schreiber,” said Superintendent Kathleen Mooney. “This recognition should help to expand the opportunities available to her in the future. We wish her well.”

According to the College Board’s website, the  recognition program “is an academic honor that can be included on college applications. It’s not a scholarship, but colleges do use this program to identify academically exceptional Hispanic/Latino students.”

The  board reaches out to students who,  aside from scoring high on the PSAT, have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of junior year, the website said.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program shares information about the recognized students’ college preparedness with colleges and universities, the release said.
