Readers Write: Library salon offers insights

The Island Now

A few years ago, someone recommended the Socrates Salon to me.
This discussion group meets monthly at the Great Neck Library. It offers delightful, informative and inspiring conversation.
Ron Gross, the host and moderator, a 40-year resident of Great Neck, also chairs the University Seminar on Innovation at Columbia University.
He has championed the revival of great conversation in several books.
It has offered an inexhaustible array of stimulating topics.
Recently we have talked about friendship, luck, wealth, compassion and humor.
The atmosphere is warm and hospitable. Light refreshments are provided.
Men and women of all ages participate. I look forward to attending often.
One recent participant remarked, “I didn’t know what I thought, until I heard what I said.”
The Salon has been meeting at the Station Branch of the library, usually on the first Friday of the month, from 3:00-4:15 p.m.
Dates and topics are posted online and in the Library Newsletter.
Newcomers are always welcome.
Arrive by 2:45 p.m. to assure a seat.
The Salon is expected to move back to the Main Branch soon.
