The precedent set by The Island Now of not fact-checking is what necessitates my writing this letter.
All too often your paper goes to print with an inaccuracy that is “too late to correct in print, but if someone in the village would like to clarify this I will run in next edition.”
Your June 19 edition included a letter to the editor titled, “GN Mayor blocks Facebook post from resident.”
To clarify, the Facebook page cited is my personal page, not an official village page. Second, the letter writer is not a resident of the Village.
As a newspaper provides an important forum for opinions, let’s be careful not to discard “fact” in the process.
