Readers Write: Right way to oppose Trump’s radical plans

The Island Now

We have had a year and a half to find out what Donald Trump thinks and plans for the unfortunate losing half of the electorate.
To be specific, more than half voted for Hillary, but the state Electoral Colleges determined in whose hands the power will lie.
We now are faced with what will be an enormous effort to prevent radical changes in our country.
Republicans have the majority over the Executive and Legislative branches and we are in danger of a losing a majority in the Judicial — our Supreme Court.
Many progressive advances may be reversed if we do not exert enormous constant efforts to prevent destruction of what so many devoted altruistic thinkers have accomplished.
Much expert analysis of what went wrong is being advanced and many will document what must be watched.
History provides ample evidence of what extremists have destroyed in formerly democratic societies, and no lies, misinterpretations, hatreds and downright ignorance should be allowed to go non-criticized, unexplained and unchallenged.
The challenge for all of us is to be vigilant, vocal and persistent.
We still have free speech and we must use it — without violence.
