Readers Write: Town ignores noise issues

The Island Now

This is in response to the article in the Herald Courier dated July 29, 2016 “Bosworth to FAA: reroute planes”
In the article Ms. Bosworth states that the low flying airplanes are “hazardous to our health” and that the constant exposure to this noise can contribute to cardiovascular conditions to people who are exposed to it.
I guess these planes are flying too dose to Ms. Bosworth’s neighborhood in Great Neck, which is why she has written these letters to the FAA, because it personally affects her quality of life.
Last year, l addressed the Town Board on June 23, 2015 regarding the obnoxious noise being created at Tully Park while the volunteer firemen using taxpayer money to race their (actually our) cars down drag strips creating much louder noise than most of the aircraft above.
This is an excerpt of the narrative I gave at that meeting.
“My specific reference is with regard  to tile  noise created by the New Hyde Park, Garden City Park. Manhasset-Lakeville , Port Washing.ton and Westbury Fire Departments drag racing at Tully Park.
The race cars and trucks rev their engines  as they  speed up to the arch at Michael Tully Park to perform tactical maneuvers creating deafening noise.
Noise is defined under Chapter 38-2 of the Town of North Hempstead Code as “any sound which annoys or disturbs humans or which causes or tends to cause an adverse psychological or physiological effect of humans.”
I feel the sound  of these cars each night definitely affects the quality  of life in our neighborhood.
I live approximately seven blocks from Tully Park and it sounds like they are racing in my front yard.
I honestly do not understand the reasoning behind these maneuvers, but I do know that the noise is unbearable with decibel levels exceeding the range acceptable for a residential area.”
Ms.Bosworth supposedly sent someone out to read the decibel levels outside my home, but I do not believe this was ever done as I was home all night the readings were allegedly taken.
This is just another example of the politicians doing what’s right for them, when it affects them.
Ms. Bosworth doesn’t care about those people who are affected on the smaller scale, just those on a larger scale and especially when they themselves are affected.
When it is on a larger scale, they appealing to a larger constituency who will support their next run for office.
This is how the political machine works.
The politicians cover their eyes and ears when it doesn’t affect them, except during an election year.
Then they will yes you to death and do nothing.
This is one reason,I am happy to be leaving this town for a more peaceful way of life.
I truly hope that those of you who live close to Tully Park continue the fight and get that track moved to Bar Beach as I suggested two years ago.
