The Roslyn Bulldogs defeated the Floral Park Knights 22-8 on Saturday afternoon.

After trailing 8-0 at halftime, Roslyn posted three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to earn their first win of the season.

Senior quarterback Adam Combs led Roslyn going 13 for 22 for 160 yards.

He also ran the ball 12 times for a total of 112 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Roslyn head coach Mike Corcoran said it was great to come out with a victory after two tough losses.

“It’s huge,” Corcoran said. “I don’t think they expected this out of us. We needed the win in the worst way to get going.”

Floral Park head coach Mike Spina said his team made too many mistakes in the second half and never recovered.

“We came out after halftime and had a couple of unfortunate turnovers,” Spina said. “We didn’t tackle well today and were gassed in the fourth quarter — iIm giving credit to all their coaching staff and their players.”

In the first quarter, Floral Park scored the game’s first touchdown on a 55-yard drive after stopping Roslyn on their opening drive.

Junior running back Cole Horan ran for a 1-yard touchdown and scored on the two point conversion to give Floral Park an early 8-0 lead.

Both sides played strong defense in the second quarter as they each traded zeroes.

Floral Park held onto to an 8-0 lead going into the half.

In the third quarter, Roslyn senior defensive back Brian Paschka forced a fumble on the first play of Floral Park’s opening drive.

This set up a 60 yard drive for Roslyn, as they scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run by Combs.

They got the two point conversion on a pass to junior running back Prince Butler to tie the game with 7:18 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Roslyn started their opening drive on their own 11-yard line and took the lead on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Combs to Butler.

They converted on the extra point attempt to take a 15-7 lead with 8:50 left to play.

Butler said he told his team he was going to get a touchdown and was glad he did.

“I saw Combs and told him ‘pass me the ball,’” Butler said. “Then, I split the defenders and got the touchdown. I’m so happy.”

With 3:47 left in the game, Roslyn struck again with a 12 yard interception return by senior linebacker Marc Azouley.

After the four minute warning, Roslyn punted the ball and forced Floral Park to begin their drive on their own two yard line.

Azouley picked off a pass from Floral Park quarterback Kyle Hilaire and ran into the endzone.

They converted on the extra point and extended their lead 22-8. Roslyn held on the rest of the way to secure their first win of the season.

Corcoran said the biggest difference in this game was minimizing their mistakes and turnovers.

He also added that he wants to enjoy the win and not look too far ahead.
