Unity day in Herricks

All three of the Herricks Public Schools’ elementary buildings celebrated Unity Day on Oct. 21 as a way to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Many students and staff members wore orange and participated in lessons and activities based on the theme. Students were taught how to be upstanders and help stop bullying.

Searingtown School classes participated in a Wrinkled Heart Lesson. Teachers displayed paper hearts that were wrinkled to illustrate the lasting impact of words. Students then wrote their names on paper band aid cutouts, which they decorated and taped around the hearts as a pledge of kindness.
