Two East Williston Board of Education trustees, David Keefe and Alan Littman, will be running unopposed for their spots on the board.

Keefe is the board president of the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System and is a former Hempstead public school teacher. He retired from teaching in 2004 and has served on numerous education and community committees.

This would be Keefe’s fourth term as trustee.

Littman was sworn in for his first three-year term in 2016 after running unopposed.

Littman is an insurance salesman and graduate of the Wheatley School. He lives in Albertson and is currently president of the board of Rising Stars, which aims to help children through educationally centered youth basketball programs around the country.

Keefe and Littman have most recently been involved in determining the proposed budget for the 2019-20 school year, which will be $61,689,714. They were also involved in lowering the tax levy from a proposed 2.74 percent to 2.49 percent.

Efforts to reach Keefe and Littman were unavailing.

In the Herricks school district, incumbent Juleigh Chin will be running unopposed for a seat on the Board of Education.

Chin has been on the school board for six years and is a 14-year resident of the district. She is currently president of the Herricks Board of Education.

She supported past efforts to begin school classes later and has been part of a board that has overseen the hiring of a new superintendent, among other things. The board has also continued to keep the budget below the state tax cap.

The Herricks Board of Education has come under fire recently as Herricks teachers are  without a contract after almost 10 months. As the president of the board, Chin has said that the board and the Herricks Teachers Association have been actively engaging in negotiations.

“The board is hopeful that the next step in the process will result in an equitable resolution to this matter for all involved,” Chin said previously.

Efforts to reach Chin were unavailing.

The school board elections will be held on May 21.
