Based on the novel by Ian McEwan. Starring Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci. As her marriage crumbles, a judge must decide a case involving a teenage boy who is refusing a blood transfusion on religious principle.

The book being discussed is “The Bughouse Affair” by Marcia Muller. The first of a series of historical mysteries in 1890s San Francisco, former Pinkerton Carpenter and detective Quincannon undertake investigations that intersect, and later involve the bughouse Sherlock Holmes.

Friday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m.: Movie — “The Little Stranger”

Based on the novel by Sarah Waters. Starring Domhnall Gleeson and Ruth Wilson. The story of Dr. Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.
