On the evening of Sunday, May 6, 2018, members of the Vigilant Fire Company joined brother and sister firefighters from across Nassau County at the annual Nassau County United Memorial Service, held in Freeport.

Attendance for the Vigilant members was once again tinged with strong feelings of loss as they publicly remembered our Ex-President Doris Groene, who passed away last year from 9/11 related cancer.

Groene had been a stalwart member of Vigilant for 30 years, representing the Company to many Firematic organizations across Nassau County.

Chief of Department Joshua Charry accepted a Bible from Freeport Fire Department Chief Alfredo Ruiz, a token of respect for a member whose death is ruled to be in the line of duty.
